What is Octa®?

Developed by Teijin Frontier Co.Hollow polyester fiber with a deformed cross section

It is Octa® (Octa®)is Octa®.

The name "Octa" comes from the ancient Greek word "8 (octa). Incidentally, octopus, the English name for octopus, also comes from this word. It is easy to remember.

Despite its complex structure, Octa's fibers are very thin.28μmThe structure is so complex, yet Octa's fibers are only 28 micrometers thin. Isn't it amazing that this structure is as thin as 1/3 of a hair!

The complexly shaped fibers with many protrusions easily accumulate dead air and have excellent ventilation effects due to their breathability.

Stretch Octa" with added stretchability is used.

The following image should make it easier to understand. The center is hollow, with eight protrusions. You can see that, can't you?

What is active insulation?

Active Insulation is a term that can be translated into Japanese as"Dynamic Insulated Clothing.

In other words, it is an insulating garment worn during activities.

Insulation = warm clothing

When we think of insulating clothing, we generally think of fleece, down, or synthetic cotton.

However, it is not recommended to use them for mountaineering or running in the fall and winter.I was soaked in sweat while wearing them.Have you ever experienced that?

Especially when you are a beginner and don't know how to do anything. It's a hassle to stop, take off your clothes, and put them in your backpack.

Fleece and padding can cause overheating due to their high heat retention properties.

I don't recommend wearing a down jacket during activities because it gets damp with sweat and loses its loft.

However, it is not possible to wear only a base layer in cold weather, and as a result, it is not recommended to wear a down layer during activities. When it gets hot, take it off, and when it gets cold, put it back on.I repeat taking it off when it gets too hot and putting it on when it gets too cold.

Difference from conventional insulation

Not to be.Can continue to be worn while in actionis active insulation.

What is the difference from conventional insulation?Superior breathabilityand is more breathable!

This allows sweat and steam to escape during activities while retaining a certain amount of heat, keeping you comfortable.

To use an analogyIt is like wearing a thin film of air. It's like wearing a thin film of air. I can understand it well when I actually wear it and act in it,Not too hot, not too coldIt is not too hot and not too cold.

Suchventilation while retaining heat.In order to achieve these two contradictory elements, various materials, processes, and fabrics are being developed by various companies.

One of them is Octa®, which we introduce here.

Other examples include Polartec® Alpha and PrimaLoft® Active.
